Norway Jan 08

08th Jan 08
Well arrived in Trondheim late afternoon and the final flight to touch down was like a picture out of a fairy tale book, the snow capped mountains and land, with some cloud above and the orange break through light shining over the mountains and fjords, was just an amazing sight.

Heading up north to see what lies ahead for me; hopefully snow and some birds (the feathered type) and whatever else appears on the horizion.

Arrived in Flatanger after the 3 hour drive thanks to my new friend tom from Oslo for the trip up. And those snowy roads although did not stop the traffic slowing down any. And i got one of Norway's favorite Hotdogs Emm!

Hoping for some more snow this week to add a bit atmosphere to this lovely place.. Fingers crossed. And the deadly quite around this place is scary at times. But really has to be seen to be believed, trust me!

Sun13 01 08: well seen the Golden Eagles and the ever changing light is challenging to say the least, rain one minute then sunshine then snow!! but i am getting there i think. And the guys i am with are from norway, spain, interesting people. And our guide is just fantastic and all rounder with a wide depth of knowledge in all areas of Nature in Norway. Really enjoyed the whole magic of this place, to see the golden eagles up close is truly a sight for a photographer.

Mon14 01 08: Not so good the day the Golden Eagles decided to go on strike? unless they were full? long day and so tired (yawning) So hopefully tomorrow will be better and not a -7 . And my Gordon ramsay skills are being refined..! (laughing)

Tues 15 01 08: Not a bad days work different fjord for White Tailed Sea Eagles. Got some nice images although deleted more, but again this scenery and site was a nice eye opening to the wonderful presence of these majestic raptors, overall a good day!

Wed 16 01 08: Another day with Sea eagles quite cold the day again getting used to it..light was a big problem the day was dull all day and it got dark at 13.45pm.. or so, but got a few images still learning with this EOS Mk III. One of my norway friends has left for home, half way now this time next week it will be back to normality again.. And the ISO has had to been increased this week, for obvious reasons seems to be ok at the moment....:-)

Thursday 17 01 08: Was in a boreal forest this morning was an beautiful site with all the snow fall during the night.. looking for squirrels and the very shy goshawk... did see it for about 10 secs no pics though my spanish friend and I had such a laugh. That will remain a secret though (laughing flipee) :-)
the squirrels jay and bullfinich kept us occupied for a while.
Last day tomorrow hope the weather is good?

Friday 18 01 08:
Well we had a lot of snow fall over night which looked promising for the day ahead. Decided to go to try and find the Goshawk again... and to my surprize i did see it, but it was to quick for me:-( damn!! reflecting on it i was so stressed at not getting the image and i suppose only a fellow photographer would understand this mentality, but for those 10 mintues my life was on hold looking into the yellow eye of the infamous Goshawk and its presence.

If only i had another day i could out smart it.. :-0
Decided to stay with some red squirrels and see if i could come up with something different. And if you can picture it sitting in a Boreal Forest, covered in pure white snow the sound of the wind rushing through the trees and the fresh crisp breeze of the Norway air bitting on your nose and ear lope. The silence and total ambience of that place is to be experienced where your mind body and soul are at one with Nature.

So the day finally expired and that brought the week to a close, on reflection it was a fantastic week, some challenging photography situations & subjects. And yes there was some low points but not many, but i enjoyed the break and Norway nature and i got to interact with people of other cultures.

What more could one ask for to meet and greet people and broaden ones horizons. So i expect to be back here next year for the sea eagles or black grouse :-)

Any Northern Ireland photographers who wants to experience Norway Nature first hand give me a shout, my contact is very reliable.
You will not be disappointed for eagles both sea and golden!! And the landscape speaks for itself as you could imagine.
If your passion is Natural History Photography this place has to be on your hit list.

Until the next time...
Where will i end up next???
Be safe out there...
